Detecting and Tracking Sports Players with Random Forests and Context-Conditioned Motion Models

چکیده
Player movements in team sports are often complex and highly correlated with both nearby and distant players. A single motion model would require many degrees of freedom to represent the full motion diversity of each player and could be difficult to use in practice. Instead, we introduce a set of Game Context Features extracted from noisy detection data to describe the current state of the match, such as how the players are spatially distributed. Our assumption is that players react to the current game situation in only a finite number of ways. As a result, we are able to select an appropriate simplified motion model for each player and at each time instant using a random decision forest which examines characteristics of individual trajectories and broad game context features derived from all current trajectories. Our context-conditioned motion models implicitly incorporate complex inter-object correlations while remaining tractable. We demonstrate significant performance improvements over existing multi-target tracking algorithms on basketball and field hockey sequences of several minutes in duration containing ten and twenty players respectively.

Multi-target tracking in team-sports videos via multi-level context-conditioned latent behaviour models
Multi-target tracking techniques increasingly exploit contextual information about group dynamics. However, approaches established in pedestrian tracking make assumptions about features and motion models which are often inappropriate to sports team tracking, where motion is erratic and players wear similar uniforms with frequent interplayer occlusions. On the other hand, approaches designed spe...
متن کاملCombining motion detection and hierarchical particle filter tracking in a multi-player sports environment
We consider the problem of detecting and tracking players on a sports field in a grayscale video sequence from a fixed camera. Motion detection is performed as a separate subsystem, to locate moving objects and pass them to a tracker, and involves background modelling by fast rectangle features and blob detection. A particle filter is utilized for the tracking of objects, by a fast hierarchical...
متن کاملA study on the accuracy of motion tracking of thoracic tumors at radiotherapy with external surrogates
Introduction: In radiotherapy with external surrogates, exact information of tumor position is one of the key factors that improves treatment delivery. Many dynamic tumors in thorax region of patient move mainly due to respiration and are known as intra-fractional motion error that must be compensated, as well. One of clinical strategy is using Stereotactic Body Radiation Thera...
متن کاملMultiple Target Tracking With a 2-D Radar Using the JPDAF Algorithm and Combined Motion Model
Multiple target tracking (MTT) is taken into account as one of the most important topics in tracking targets with radars. In this paper, the MTT problem is used for estimating the position of multiple targets when a 2-D radar is employed to gather measurements. To do so, the Joint Probabilistic Data Association Filter (JPDAF) approach is applied to tracking the position of multiple targets. To ...
متن کاملSelf-Learning for Player Localization in Sports Video
This paper introduces a novel self-learning framework that automates the label acquisition process for improving models for detecting players in broadcast footage of sports games. Unlike most previous self-learning approaches for improving appearance-based object detectors from videos, we allow an unknown, unconstrained number of target objects in a more generalized video sequence with non-stat...
